Chess Link is a smart physical chessboard that bridges the gap between traditional tactile play and modern online connectivity. Designed in response to the rise of remote gaming during the COVID-19 pandemic, it allows users to play chess physically while connected to friends or AI opponents via a companion Android app. The board uses 64 Hall effect sensors and RGB LEDs to track piece movements and guide gameplay with intuitive lighting. An Arduino Giga manages local hardware, while Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects handle real-time game logic and matchmaking. With Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, Chess Link delivers a seamless, screen-free chess experience.
Plant O Lingo is a smart, modular plant care system developed using the iterative engineering design process. It monitors soil moisture using sensors, automatically waters the plant via a solenoid valve, and displays plant health status on an LCD. The structure is a scalable acrylic frame, integrating adjustable components, lighting, and communication systems to notify users of plant needs via text.
The Smart Safety Hat is a wearable device designed to enhance pedestrian safety through a combination of visibility and audible alert systems. Created using an engineering design process, the hat addresses pedestrian vulnerabilities—especially in low-visibility environments or during high-risk interactions with vehicles and other pedestrians. The final prototype integrates an LED light activated by a light sensor, a piezo buzzer triggered by a distance sensor, and a portable battery pack, all seamlessly embedded in a cap to ensure practicality and usability.
